Greetings and felicitations and solicitations!
I'm not sure I buy into this New Year's gig. The whole calendar is so artificial and imposed. I never got to vote.
Besides, people have had different calendar systems for a long time. And I have too many other holidays right now. We're still smack-dab in the middle of the 12 Days of Christmas!
And the clock - another artificial and imposed device. Who says (okay, the British) when the day should start?
I realize there are practical applications for this date and time stuff. I just think the people should get more input.
The Jewish calendar appeals to me - agriculturally based, ending in the early fall when everything is dying anyway. Chinese New Year is nice because it's well after Christmas and Epiphany, and before Ash Wednesday. The liturgical Christian calendar starts on the 4th Sunday before Christmas Day. So Thanksgiving is like New Year's Eve. The Persians turn their page over on the vernal equinox. That is very appealing - new life is starting all over the northern hemisphere.
